Aetna Dentist Cleburne

How Aetna Cuts the Cost of Dental Care

Do you have Aetna dental insurance through your employer? If you do, you’re fortunate to have a policy that can help you maintain your beautiful smile and address any oral health problems that may crop up. You should take full advantage of your dental benefits! As an Aetna dentist, we’re proud to work with your insurance company to make sure you get the high-quality dental care you deserve at a rate you can afford.

Let’s talk more about how our team can help you maximize your benefits and minimize your out of pocket costs.

Aetna Coverage Availability & Fees

Aetna offers three types of plans:

  • A DMO plan requires you to visit an in-network dentist. The fees are relatively low, and there are no annual maximums or deductibles. A referral is necessary if you need to see a specialist.
  • An indemnity plan has no network. Rather, you simply visit the dentist of your choice. An annual maximum (the most that Aetna will pay out for care within a calendar year) and a deductible may be enforced.
  • A PPO plan is a happy medium between a DMO and an indemnity plan. It does have a network, and you can enjoy the lowest possible fees when you visit an in-network dentist. However, you can also use your coverage at an out of network dentist if you choose to do so. An annual maximum and a deductible are part of a PPO plan.

In general, most PPO plans cover preventive care at 100% when you visit an in-network dentist (out of network coverage may be around 80%). Minor restorative services, such as fillings, may be covered at 60% - 80% at in-network dental offices. For major restorative services, coverage is typically around 50%.

Because we are in-network with Aetna and our team is familiar with how their policies work, we’re able to help you truly get the most out of your coverage. We can explain how your policy relates to a specific treatment, and we can help plan your procedures in a way that minimizes out of pocket costs. For example, if you require extensive restorative work, it may be best to break up the process across two calendar years so you can take advantage of multiple annual maximums.
